Cheyann Benedict
Cheyann Benedict's leather trousers drape like sweatpants

Love the elegant touch and warmth of leather? So do we, but we hate how most leather pants are cut so tight that they look wrong on anyone who?s not Taylor Swift skinny.

Now there?s a cool trend that?s as easy to wear as a pair of sweats. The new leather pants are cut loose and have--wait for it--elastic waists.

We?ve lately been spotting relaxed leather fashions around town at our favorite local designers and shops. Elaine Kim?s version comes in buttery brown Italian leather ($1,095) with a wide, comfy waistband and nipped-in ankles. Cheyann Benedict makes a similarly roomy, gathered pair in a hip caramel hue ($720). Pacific Palisades boutique Elyse Walker carries a black cropped pair ($595) with a stitched waistband that recalls a boxer?s trunks--seriously.

Most economical is the vegan leather style ($341) from Heidi Merrick, who has cleverly included pockets without making the silhouette any baggier.

After trying on a few pairs, as well as seeing how great they look with everything from heels to sneakers, we?re ready to rock the leather this winter--and still have plenty of room for dessert.
