Handmade pots with swinging style
California has a vigorous tradition of handmade pottery, including classic brands such as Heath Ceramics in Sausalito and Los Angeles's own Bauer Pottery. Now we're adding a nascent brand to that pantheon: TW Pottery.
This collection of hand-built pots is made by Tracy Wilkinson, a fashion designer who makes her wares at her Mount Washington home. Each pot ($55 to 80) is unique, finished in a combination of matte and shiny glazes, and they come in hues including black, brown and white.
The hanging bits of the pots are the coolest part: Hemp rope is fastened to bits of fabric and leather that thread through holes in the sides of the pots. The overall effect is of a particularly skillful craft made at summer camp, but one we could never in a million years create ourselves.
Sold at our favorite gift shops (including Mohawk General Store) and gardening centers (Potted), Wilkinson's wares are also sold on Etsy. A few of these hanging on our deck and our gardening skills just got elevated.
