Gratafy
You don't have to be at Mo-Chica to buy your friend a Doggfather cocktail.

We love restaurant get-togethers, but sometimes we don?t have the time or the traffic tolerance. Now there?s a way to be a part of the fun in spirit(s): Gratafy, an app that lets you send the gift of food and drink via your iPhone, Android or iPad.

Here?s how it works: Your coworkers have planned a going-away party at Paiche, but there?s no way you?re driving to Marina del Rey. Instead, open Gratafy on your mobile phone, then tap through listed entrées and drinks (or gift certificate amounts). Send your choice to your pal using her telephone number. Even if she doesn?t have Gratafy downloaded herself, she?ll receive a text announcing your gift. It?s easy to redeem: She just orders as normal, and when the bill arrives, she shows the server an access code for the credit.

Gratafy launched in Seattle last year; it recently debuted in Los Angeles with 20 participating restaurants, and more to come. Some of our favorite spots have signed on with everything from drinks (a bottle of French bubbly for $55 at Bodega Wine Bar) to main courses (cioppino, $26 at Santa Monica Seafood) and desserts (chocolate truffle beignets, $10, Duplex on Third).

Cheers to buying a round of drinks without even showing up!
