Lady Sings the Blues
Katey Sagal rocks the El Rey
Tomorrow night we’ll be settling in with six and a half million of our closest friends to watch the season premiere of Sons of Anarchy. We’re holding our breath for the rumored controversy, the beefcake (star Charlie Hunnam is Christian Grey!) and, above all, the charisma of leading lady Katey Sagal.
And then on Sunday, we're going to see Sagal up close and fabulous at the El Rey.
Long before Sagal played a Machiavellian motorcycle mama (in Sons) or sassy Peg Bundy (in Married...with Children), she was a successful musician, performing as a backup singer with the likes of Bob Dylan, Tanya Tucker--and as one of Bette Midler’s infamous Harlettes.
Though Sagal’s character on Sons doesn’t sing, the show has used her sexy purr as background music. Just listen to her hit those high ones in “Son of a Preacher Man” and “Bird on a Wire.” Sagal will be performing those songs and cuts from her upcoming album with the band the Forest Rangers (led by Sons musical director Bob Thiele).
Take care if you go: She just might burn the place down.
