Juice cleanses for energy and slimming
We're curious about the health and weight-loss benefits of juice cleanses but have been turned off by the yucky beverages and no-solids rules of some programs. (We're looking at you, Master Cleanse.)
But now two modified juice fasts new to Los Angeles have us intrigued. The first, BluePrint Cleanse, is a New York-based company famed for its core program: six daily fresh-pressed fruit- and greens-juices. As cleanse newbies, however, we're signing up for the less-intense Juice 'Til Dinner program. During the day you drink juice, but at night you eat raw-food meals such as carrot-ginger soup and marinated kale salad with tahini dressing. ($85 per day; blueprintcleanse.com)
There's also Paleta, the Venice-based caterer and meal-delivery outfit specializing in organic and vegan food. Felicity Huffman, Shar Jackson and Molly Sims are fans, and now that Paleta's offering a five-day cleanse, so are we. It's gradual--day one's meals of, say, quinoa-citrus-and-arugula salad and mushroom risotto are increasingly swapped out for vanilla, cinnamon or cocoa shakes. ($69 per day; paleta.com)
Both services are delivered each morning to your door--no cooking! We're energized by just the thought of it.
