Tiny desserts are trending in Los Angeles. First there were teensy tarts. Then there were mini-ice pops. Now, behold the world’s smallest cakes: Plops Cakeballs. (Please forgive them their name.) 

Cakes come in four flavors (vanilla, red velvet, chocolate and lemon) and there are 15 chocolate icings with added flavoring, including plain milk chocolate, strawberry lemon and mint. (Our favorite is the white chocolate, which has cream cheese flavor--great on the red velvet cake!) Cake-and-icing combos are already paired, but if you dream up a match you’d like, the management can make it for you in a day or two. Plop Cakeballs sells the sweets individually for $1.75, and you can custom order a crazy quilt of cakes for parties with a two-day lead time. 

These are light, not as high calorie as cupcakes and our mouth is watering in anticipation of seasonal flavors like pumpkin. Don’t worry Sprinkles, we still love you enough to buy your wares at midnight from an ATM--but cakeballs are our new little friends.
