Herons and flying fish gambol across the Sea Tales pattern, a contemporary riff on traditional toile.
Not all Abnormals Anonymous designs have to do with the sea; the Miso pattern is an endless botanical print for your wall.
Buggie turns a drawing of an insect into something glamorous in silver or gold. For metallic prints, Abnormals Anonymous begins with an entire sheet of metallic paper, then digitally prints flat ink over it.
The giraffe print is a perfect solution for grown-ups who want a design for a children’s room that can grow with their kids.
When we visited the new Palihouse Santa Monica, we started obsessing about the quirky-cool wallpaper we saw hung in bedrooms and baths. Giant reddish squid and wicked seaweed trees stared down over the beds--who could dream up such a thing?
Turns out a nice married couple from Venice are cranking out a gleeful phantasmagoria of nautical-inspired wallpaper for their company, Abnormals Anonymous. Lauren Love and Trae King started the company last year after deciding to pool their visual skills. (She’s a former interior decorator; he was a production designer.)
Most of the work, like Love’s favorite design, Mr. Blow, is inspired by the couple’s nautical adventures in their part-time Seattle home. A local fisherman based here in Los Angeles finds them old etchings, which they enlarge for their papers.
Abnormals Anonymous papers cost between $65 and $100 per square yard. Use them on an accent wall or in a powder room to really make a splash.
Abnormals Anonymous is available at Walnut Wallpaper, 7424 Beverly Blvd.; 323-932-9166 or abnormalsanonymous.com
