My City, My Los Angeles
Anjelica Huston treasures Venice's "freedom of expression"

Recently, a new book made us fall in love with our city anew. My City, My Los Angeles is small--only six inches square--but inside, 500 actors, writers and politicians enthuse about their favorite hangouts.

This celeb tell-all is from the stars themselves--they dish on the city they love (and in some cases, love to hate). Flipping through, we found ourselves remembering great times we’ve had all over town, like meals at Jar (also a fave of Man of Steel’s Michael Shannon) and beach walks in Venice (Anjelica Huston has loved these since she moved there with her late husband 20 years ago). You can tell that author Jeryl Brunner has been a reporter for glossies like InStyle; she’s tightly edited her subjects’ recommendations yet kept their voices.

The book’s entries read like insider tips--as though we’ve bumped into SAG president Ken Howard at the Farmers Market and he’s insisting we try Craig’s, the restaurant on Melrose started by the former maître d’ at Dan Tana’s.

Our tip? Keep a copy of My City, My Los Angeles on the bedside table in your guest room. It will inspire visitors to open Google Maps and set off on their own.
