Facials are great (heck, we’ve even done facial yoga), but sometimes we don’t have the hours to spend listening to the greatest hits of the New Age while getting our pores unplugged. Since we discovered Skin Laundry spa, though, we’re plum out of excuses, because a treatment there takes as much time as a ordering a macchiato.

Skin Laundry cofounder Dr. Elson Lai says he imported the concept after travels through Asia, where he saw women lining up for quickie skincare sessions at storefront spas.

In a cheery spot on Montana Avenue, we were led to one of four treatment rooms, where a registered nurse removed our makeup with Alcone Make Off and fitted us with light-blocking eye shades. The nurse passed a laser wand over our face, a prickling procedure that took less than five minutes. After the nurse applied a cooling gel, Dr. Lai made a quick second pass with an intense pulsed light (IPL) photofacial hand piece.

And voilà--our skin was super-clean and bright. Staffers explained that the light cleanses pores and evens skin tone, then the IPL tightens the skin by stimulating collagen. We walked out of the place looking like the 2008 version of ourselves. Bonus: The first treatment is free, with subsequent visits ranging from $65 to $99.
