Ballet Bodies gives us dancer toning
It's been a long time since we took ballet classes. Sadly, we've left behind our girlhood ballerina fantasies--along with the flat abs, powerful legs and gravity-defying rump earned with all that training.
But now a sunny new exercise studio has reawakened our dancer fantasies and reinvigorated muscles we'd forgotten we had. Ballet Bodies is the exercise studio and personal-training center of Andie Hecker, a former New York City Ballet dancer who has trained the likes of supermodel Miranda Kerr and actress Natalie Portman.
Hecker's small studio is hidden in plain sight behind white shades on Beverly Boulevard, where she and her team teach Pilates (using Reformer and Cadillac machines), circuit aerobics classes with mini-trampolines and more. We're most enthusiastic about the Group Beginning ballet class, an encouraging, nonthreatening workout for adults who loved such training in their youth but may have forgotten much of it. (Ballet slippers aren't even required, though pink, white and black pairs are for sale.)
Time spent at Ballet Bodies is a remembrance of things past--in this case, tired muscles, lovely posture and the joy of moving gracefully to music.
