Part of the fun in visiting Sire's Crown Eyewear at its downtown HQ, besides hanging out in the converted loft interiors of Los Angeles's first Bank of America building...
...is seeing what new projects the team is developing, such as these superbright frames dyed with soy-based ink.
One of the brand's latest and most glamorous frames is called The Marilyn--here in Waterfall Sweet Gum with black composite arms ($295). The design is based on a pair of 1950s sunglasses.
As a gift with each purchase, Sire's Crown Eyewear gives clients a necklace to hang their glasses from, made of wood that matches their frames.
We love trying on glasses--it?s a chance to play dress up as an adult. And when we discover frames that are flattering as well as fashion-forward, it?s as though our whole look has gotten a refreshing makeover.
That?s why we recommend making the trip to downtown Los Angeles for a little destination shopping at the new loft HQ of Sire's Crown Eyewear. This two-year-old company sells frames made of rare, internationally sourced woods (Hawaiian koa, African wenge, West Virginia-grown sweet gum). Sire's specializes in simple, retro-influenced designs--the Dylan Thomas reminds us of our beloved Ray-Bans, while the Moorea style recalls Steve McQueen in a convertible. And the new Marilyn frame, modified from 1950s sunglasses, evokes movie-star glam. (Added bonus: All are lightweight and flexible, so you won?t suffer those unsightly nose indentations.)
While frames (from $250) are sold online, many models are made in such small batches that they sell out immediately. So it?s worth your time to book an appointment for a no-pressure try-on session at Sire's to see the latest offerings in person: It?s shopping that looks like--and is--a good time.
