Pooka Queen hats liven up summer fetes
There?s nothing better than opening a beautiful invitation to a summer wedding or garden party. And there?s nothing worse than spending every day leading up to the event looking for something to wear. This summer, we?re jazzing up a couple of our favorite dresses with head-turning hats from Pooka Queen.
Pooka Queen is the work of Brianna Kenyon, a local milliner who uses her training as a jewelry maker in fashioning sculptural creations of industrial felt. Kenyon?s wildly original work can best be described as steampunk-meets-Holly Golightly and is surprisingly flattering. Her influences range from nature (a feathered insect?s shell, $118, or an orange-sherbet-colored floral headband, $87) to sports (a teal huntsman?s fascinator, $126) and even architecture (this hat was inspired by the Guggenheim Bilbao).
Many of Kenyon?s creations are attached to headbands or come with sturdy elastic so that a stiff breeze (or one too many stiff drinks) won?t leave them askew. You can try on her hats at Orphic or order one direct from the designer?s Etsy shop. Our only concern in wearing one is upstaging the bride.
