Santa Ana Smackdown
Dry skin therapies combat chapped lips
The super-dry Santa Anas are blowing now, and we?re at wits' end. Joan Didion famously wrote about how the winds filled her with tension, but she failed to note how these periods of less than 25 percent humidity make you look haggard. (Our lips looked like raisins this morning.) We?ve found three remedies to boldly declare: Take that, Señorita Santa Ana!
Luxe Lube: We love, love, love Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner ($28). This nude-colored salve smells a bit of peonies and instantly plumps and soothes. It?s a great gateway drug into the Estée Lauder scion?s addictive beauty indulgences, sold at Neiman Marcus.
Jojoba Hydration: Lip enhancers are great, but when our skin is raw, the last thing we want is a topical irritant. Californian Christina Zilber has come up with Jouer Lip Enhancer ($14), a blend of botanicals, vitamin E, shea butter and Jojoba oil that both fills out fine lines and penetrates with moisture for lasting benefits.
Udder Relief: Invented in 1899 for sore cow teats (we all have our issues), Bag Balm?s blend of petroleum jelly, lanolin and antiseptic is the chapped-lip go-to we pick up at Larchmont Beauty Center ($6.50) and keep in the car for everyone (bovine or not). Because our husband resents wearing pink-tinted lip balm.
Aerin is available at area Neiman Marcus stores or aerin.com; Jouer is available at Nordstrom Santa Monica, 220 Broadway, 310-752-2701 or jouercosmetics.com; Bag Balm is available at Larchmont Beauty Center, 208 N. Larchmont Blvd., 323-461-0162 or larchmontbeauty.com
