Nuts to You
Peanut brittle is the new foodie favorite
Peanut brittle is having a moment. From its featured role as a dessert at a popular New York City restaurant to a Super Bowl champ?s Michigan-based effort selling his mom?s recipe, the sweet treat is everywhere. And we?re proud to say Los Angeles represents with the sophisticated brittles from Morning Glory Confections we discovered at the Cheese Store of Silverlake.
Former private chef and Echo Park resident Max Lesser dreamed up his creations after clients raved about his spiced nuts. We like that he has something for everyone, starting with a traditional Fleur de Sel-and-peanut duo, which is the platonic ideal of the salty-sweet brittle we remember as kids. Next there?s Chai-tea-and-cashew, which matches the warmth of chai with buttery cashews. For more adventurous palates, Lesser pairs Thai curry and peanut with notes of lemongrass and Kaffir lime. (Dieter alert: The intense flavors satisfy after just a couple bites.)
Lesser has lately started adding chocolate, mixing it with Alderwood smoked salt and peanuts or bourbon and pecans. At $5 for two ounces, we?re picking up a few extra boxes for hostess gifts...providing we can keep out of it ourselves.
