"Polished" has a double meaning at Jenni Kayne: It describes the minimalist chic of the young SoCal designer's clothes, worn by both Hollywood stars and the execs who cast them. It also describes the actual finish of the clothes, from the smooth lines of a caramel leather shift ($995) to the shiny silk of pajama-like wide-legged pants ($350) in onyx, jade, ruby and aquamarine.

And now that Kayne's fall collection is in stock at her elegant West Hollywood store, we're stopping in to luxuriate in this young designer's fully articulated and sophisticated worldview. Vitrines are filled with jewelry recalling the early architectural pieces of Donna Karan, and shoes eschew the overdone stiletto in favor of wedges and flats.

Most of all we love the L.A.-appropriateness of everything in the store. Lightweight sweaters are folded on tables opposite her custom line of sunglasses, a juxtaposition only a local would understand. And throughout the store, her best-selling welt blazers, crop trousers and other pieces show up in both neutral and bright colors--because as well as being polished, when we're going from day to evening, we like to be a bit of a peacock, too.
