The ease and graciousness of having even small home affairs catered appeals to us, but we?re a bit bored with standard menu items: mini grilled cheeses, mini hamburgers. Not only that, but our vegetarian guests are often left grazing the garnish. So we?re happy to have found new caterers that are part vegan, part carnivorous and all yummy.
Bling Bling Dumpling makes fusion dim sum, addictive soy dipping sauces and fresh organic salads. Cooks Anne Chen and Cindy Pao are Laurel Canyon residents schooled in Chinese fare by their mothers and grandmothers; they decided to open shop after a recent trip to Taiwan, where they fell in love with the street food. In the past year, they?ve served the crowds at farmers? markets and at parties like the Kids? Choice Awards handmade dumplings filled with everything from traditional ginger pork to grass-fed beef and cheddar (yup, a cheeseburger dumpling).
But the duo?s most popular item--and we say, their most delicious--is the vegan dumpling. The chefs say they worked long and hard on their secret seven ingredients including tofu, shiitake mushrooms, Napa cabbage and more. You can sample them ($5 for 4) at farmers? markets (Thursdays at Century City or Fridays at Wilshire and Vermont), or contact them directly to discuss catering (about $25 a head).
