Los Angeles has made divorce news since the 1970s, when a Hollywood attorney gave us the term ?palimony.? Now there?s a new family law innovation: Divorce Detox, a West Hollywood-based counseling service that specializes in helping clients psychologically rebound from a divorce.
Anger, low self-esteem, confusion, obsessive thinking: These are just some of the toxic assets that company founder and life coach Allison Pescosolido helps clients target, identified during an initial online questionnaire. Respondents rate remarks such as ?I complain about my ex-spouse whenever I can? and ?I am worried I will be alone forever.?
Divorce Detox offers a six-week in-person detox program ($2,500) or a ten-hour individual intensive program ($3,500). There?s also a Survival Kit ($19 a month), which provides a daily esteem-boosting email and access to an online community, plus monthly group coaching calls. While services seem pricey compared with many therapists, we like Divorce Detox?s no-nonsense focus on divorce issues and starting over, so there?s no prolonged family-of-origin rehashing.
Pescosolido and her colleague Christina Huang also offer marriage counseling and dating telecourses, as well as help co-parenting with an ex-spouse. Altogether, Divorce Detox?s programs reassure us that whatever relationship problems we may encounter, there?s someone there to help.
