Dynamic denim at the J. Brand outlet
Worn by Kate Middleton during her North American visit, lauded by Vogue editor Anna Wintour on film and stocked as a wardrobe staple by Hollywood types like Katie Holmes, J Brand jeans are having a moment. Not only that, the brand started this summer's huge trend of (surprisingly flattering) rainbow-hued twill.
And we lucky Angelenos have the Los Angeles-based brand's only outlet store, where backlist and current styles sell for about half the retail price.
The outlet opened in late 2008, in a loft next to the brand's downtown factory, and offers more than a thousand pairs of jeans (mostly women's, but several men's and teens' styles, too). It's staffed by energetic young men that have both a deep knowledge of style and an eagerness to find customers' dream jeans, so it's a low-pressure spot in which to test-drive styles you thought might never work for you. Curious about the new high-waisted wide-leg styles? They're here. Crop pants? Ditto.
And those rainbow-bright jeans? We couldn't leave without a red pair (which retail for $176, but we paid $90); we'll dress them up with heels and a silk blouse.
