Since it opened last year, Echo Park boutique grocer Cookbook has become a must-stop for foodies. Besides selling sophisticated, prepared foods (like pork shoulder terrine or artisanal ice pops), the store chooses of-the-moment cookbooks (such as Plenty by Diana Henry), then stocks all the ingredients needed to make their recipes. And now, Cookbook has opened up a classroom for wide-ranging seminars about all things food.
Organized by author, gardening guru and grocery proprietress Marta Teegan, Cookbook No. 2 is the tiny storefront next door where seminars of a dozen people get the benefit of Teegan's friends in the foodie and creative worlds. From painting (a food still-life how-to) to probiotics (an explanation and recipe swap) to politics (a discussion of industrialization and the food supply), the classes have the feel of a casual get-together among friends, with no hard sell.
Teegan announces upcoming classes in the window of Cookbook, where we dare you to resist picking up a snack before class begins.
