Strolling through the fake snow at the Grove the other night, we happened upon a new ?pop cart? with gifts from Silverlake dweller Heidi Merrick, a fashion and home-goods designer whose young label is filling us with major retail lust.
Merrick, a Carpinteria native and the daughter of surfboard design legend Al Merrick, has got a special knack for dressy clothes that are still comfortable. Her first-ever holiday collection has a groovy gold Ritz top ($334) with lace sleeves that distract from its deceptively roomy waist area. The crepe J A Murray dress ($300) is a simple LBD with Merrick?s trademark accent zipper. Sexiest of all is the Proust dress ($322), with its deep scoop back made of lace.
While most of Merrick?s designs are sold online, you can browse her home goods in person at the Grove, including patterned pillows made of waxed African cloth ($165), antique sequins ($165) and dreamy sea-colored hand-painted silk ($110). And Merrick?s even dressing up our sleepy time, too, with items such as a luxe set of leather-trimmed striped pajamas ($250) and irresistible dolls ($145) made from design studio scraps.
From boîte to beddy-bye, Heidi Merrick?s got our back.
