There are lots of great things about being a woman, but lugging a heavy purse isn?t one of them. Sure, we like the hands-free freedom and comfort of a backpack. But sadly, most models leave us looking like a Girl Scout group leader or a campus freshman.
Entering the store is like stepping into a mountain cabin smelling of leather and brightened with handwoven rugs. Racks of belts (from $60) mingle with tables overflowing with totes (from $175) and small leather goods (from $85).
What really caught our eye were the bags with artisanal weaving, such as 75-year-old dhurries and Mexican blankets. Throughout the store, we were impressed by the careful attention to detail, like clasps made of vintage hardware and complimentary travel pillows that come in each bag.
The Eugene, Oregon-based company has sold its handsome, Americana-styled products internationally for years. But it chose Venice for its flagship since it was here on the boardwalk that founder Bill Adler started selling belts back in the 1980s.
