A Malibu ranch’s daylong tasting
Let?s review our favorite ways to relax: A walk along the coast. A glass of wine. A soothing chocolate morsel. Tomorrow we?re going to enjoy all three at the Chocolate Invitational, a daylong festival in Malibu.
The day starts at 10 a.m., when the grounds of Great Spirits Ranch will be dotted with tables full of offerings from artisanal chocolatiers, wineries and spirit makers. Guests are encouraged to move from one tasting table to the next: For example, at the first station Art in the Age craft spirits (we love the Rhubarb Tea) will be sampled, while at station three, a chocolatier from Marsatta Fancy Chocolates will teach a truffle-making class.
The organizers of the event, Mikki Sage and Ashley Walsh, envision chocolate as a healing social force. Walsh?s family owns Intentional Chocolate, a company that sources Hawaiian-grown cacao to make especially healthful products. Former TV commercial producer Sage thought of the idea for the festival while at Burning Man, an undoubted inspiration for this similarly creative event, which will include live painters making works to be auctioned for a Hurricane Sandy relief fund.
We?re glad there?s such virtuous intent in the event planning, as we?ll be indulging in the sin of gluttony until the party ends at about 10 p.m.
