Teese of Time
Glamorous gowns from a burlesque star
Burlesque performer Dita Von Teese has made a career out of undressing in a seductive, Bettie Page pinup fashion. Now the international fashion sensation--she?s been profiled in Vogue--is launching a capsule collection at Los Angeles?s Decades boutique.
The clothes are surprisingly mature and sophisticated for a novice designer, not to mention nightclub performer. The Second Look dress ($595) is a long-sleeved, high-necked sheath made of a viscose blend that?s lined with powermesh, the spandex used in high-end shapewear. The one-shoulder Follow Me dress ($895) in silk chiffon is sexy yet demure. And the VIP Trench Coat ($895) is structured with shoulder pads and a tulle-enhanced flare that looks like an Anita Ekberg outfit from La Dolce Vita.
Four of the five pieces in the collection are sold in basic black, while one garment--the red-carpet-ready Bon Bon Maxi dress ($995)--comes in a fetching dusty-blue-and-red print (which is based on Von Teese?s signature half-moon manicure).
We?re intrigued by this new second act for Von Teese, who also has a fragrance and lingerie and cosmetics lines overseas.
And in case you were wondering, she?s yet to give up her night job--she?s scheduled for three nights of burlesque this month in New York.
