Luckily, we?re getting a tutorial on beautiful ?tablescaping?--the art of creative tabletop arrangement--in a master caterer?s upcoming class.
Chef Terri Wahl of Echo Park?s beloved Auntie Em?s Kitchen is known for her stylish catered dinners and events. No wonder, since the former punk rocker made a point to soak up charm--as well as cuisine--as she ate her way across the country while on tour with her band. On November 7 and December 5, she?s passing on this knowledge via two classes on how to easily source surprising tabletop materials ($40; two hours each).
Many of Wahl?s secrets start with looking beyond an item?s price tag--indeed, she gets some of her favorite pieces from yard sales, flea markets and online. For example, she likes the Long Beach Flea Market for antique cookware and the Glendale swap meet for funky vintage bibelots. She trolls Etsy for apple baskets and vintage silver, weathered soda crates and vintage holiday decor.
