Infrared saunas are a quick pick-me-up
Spas tend to break down into two categories: the crunchy alternative therapy center or the slick facial-and-makeover boutique. But a new health-and-beauty spa hybrid in Hollywood gives us the best of both worlds.
The Sweat Shop L.A. is a 2,000-square-foot Cahuenga storefront that manages to pack six pristine treatment rooms with private infrared cedar saunas into its small space. Unlike traditional hot-rocks-filled saunas, infrared saunas feel cool; it?s your body that?s heated by waves of infrared energy. Health benefits include detoxification, increased circulation to lessen muscle and joint pain and a metabolic jump-start that burns calories.
After our first session, we felt as if we were walking on air, and our skin was much softer and absolutely glowing.
Best of all, our whole visit took less than an hour (no one wants to sweat this intensely for more than 35 minutes), including an en suite filtered-water shower and a post-sauna mouthful of mineral-laced water. (We also had an optional energy-enhancing B12 injection for $30.) To save more time, we left with an organic lunch we?d pre-ordered from the adjoining LifeFood Organic café.
Maybe next time we?ll have a $60 pumpkin-peel facial or a ThetaHealing session ($125). Whatever we do, we know we?ll emerge as hot stuff.
