The master bedroom by Erinn Valencich has dramatic dark walls and light-hued furniture.
All photos by John Ellis.
We love working with interior designers, but we find their real passion is saved for sweeping estates rather than our more humbly-sized abode. But a new Hollywood decorator show house is just right for us--it?s got lots of space-maximizing, high-style tips in only 1,400 square feet.
The master bedroom by designer Erinn Valencich illustrates how large pieces counterintuitively make a room look grander with its looming silver-leaf headboard and gonzo-glamour Murano-style blue chandelier. In another room, designer Brian Patrick Flynn cleverly turns a closet into a mini office. And an upstairs loft shows how pattern and color (a mod black-and-white bathroom, bright pink walls) actually suggest spaciousness more than a monochrome treatment.
In addition to all the interior inspiration, we got lots of great outdoor ideas--say, a chandelier and wall planters--from the terrace designed by the owners of Atwater Village's Potted.
Open Friday through Sunday, admission is $20--a bargain for this walk-through tutorial on tight style.
