In L.A., jeans can take us from lunch to gala, and at least part of the credit goes to Joe?s Jeans. The Los Angeles-based brand not only pioneered body-specific fits, it is an industry innovator for patterns including florals, ikat and animal prints.
The label?s latest fashion-forward move is a just-opened shop on Melrose Place. With chandeliers, French doors opening to an outdoor sitting area and wardrobes and tables bursting with clothes, the 2,700-square-foot space feels like a casually fashionable friend?s bungalow. Creative director Joe Dahan says he wanted a homey vibe, because he began designing jeans here in 2001.
The shop is the best chance we?ve had to see the whole collection together, which includes not only denim but also tops, jackets, shoes and other accessories. Wall-mounted French mirrors catch light bouncing off the particularly shiny clothing (say, the mirrored Zuma Tuxedo Tee ($158), beaded dress ($172), studded bag ($615) or golden tote ($220)).
Best of all, the shop offers the full spectrum of new fall colors of Joe?s Jeans ($158). This muted rainbow--including hues such as wild orchid, acai and bordeaux--is its own pot of gold.
