Real estate pros know that aside from “location, location, location,” the trick to getting top dollar on a home is presentation. Hence, why they hire professional home stagers to place lighting, furniture and art just so, turning a so-so abode into the scene of a bidding war.
Now we regular folks can shop the looks since NELA-based consulting company Platform Home Staging has begun not only staging homes but selling the pieces placed in them. It all started last year, when Alex Cole and Sarah Brady, the husband-and-wife team behind Highland Park home decor store Platform, staged a home renovation and sold its contents. Voilà, a new pop-up way to to sell furniture and accessories was born.
Learning about new stagings is easy: Just follow Platform on Facebook. When we visited Platform's current project at 2306 Kenilworth, no tacky price tags spoiled the organic, modern mood. Instead, we looked up prices in a specially made photo album.
This Saturday and Sunday, the property has open houses from 2 to 5 p.m. Even if you’re not officially in the market, the promise of locally-made finds (ceramics from Roger Lee, furniture from Samuel Moyer) makes this time well spent.
