We adore totes, bags and luggage by luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, T. Anthony and Goyard. But who ever wants to subject such pristine pieces to the rigors of travel?

Former CAA agent turned designer Marc Marmel has created a work-around for travelers who want nice luggage but don?t want to see it look tattered and scuffed. His solution: a line of bags, available at Barneys New York and Maxfield, made of pre-crackled leather, which looks even better after it gets a few nicks and knocks. Marmel thinks of his pieces much like old-time steamer trunks, whose stickers and stains allude to adventure, thus adding to their charm.

Suitcases come in inventive squared-off shapes as well as traditional duffel designs ($1,300 to $1,800), while what Marmel dubs ?day bags? or totes ($800 to $1,300) range from a simple shopping bag to a buckled attaché. Though all come in basic black, they are matched with a gypsy caravan?s worth of silk-brocade lining colors like orange, lime and crimson.

We?re looking forward to collecting them like stamps in our passport.
