There?s a new shop on West Third Street that?s our summertime shoe-addiction fix, one that?s a lot less costly yet just as stylish as the shoes we see in fashion magazines.
Kathryn Amberleigh is the shop?s name, and stepping into it reminds us of unique stores we?ve come across in leather-loving capitals such as Buenos Aires and Milan. Like shoes we?ve found in those places, this brand--designed by New York-based Kathryn Kim--is handmade and stylistically all over the map. There are flats ($235) as demure as a French schoolgirl, and groovy wedges ($275) that would have made a 1970s-era Charles Jourdan proud. There are gladiator sandals ($215) embossed to look like ostrich, and conservative yet sexy snakeskin pumps ($285).
Our favorite finds are what we like to call ?cha-cha heels?: the sort of party-friendly, deliciously over-the-top creations sure to inspire envy in our fashion-loving friends. Examples include sequin-encrusted satin shoes ($285) and over-the-knee calfskin boots ($395) decorated with an exotic satin-jacquard print.
And with most styles priced between $200 and $300, we can indulge our shoe fetish without guilt.
