Poketo
Mason jar tumblers and striped straws sold at Poketo.

Downtown?s Arts District is officially our new favorite place to spend a lazy afternoon. It?s got new snack stops like Handsome Coffee Roasters and the Pie Hole, boutiques including Apolis and now the irresistibly unique Poketo gift shop.

The just-opened space is slick-looking and hipstery but has warm and helpful staffers. Poketo is the first brick-and-mortar shop from the popular Los Angeles-based online gift store of the same name, and it reminds us of some of our favorite gift stores such as Mxyplyzyk in Manhattan and Colette in Paris.

We couldn?t tear ourselves away from the offerings, many of them made in limited editions just for Poketo. We?re thinking our babysitter would love one of the T-shirts ($30) or wallets ($20) designed by local artists. And for our best friend, we?ll get a bright enamel Japanese kettle ($125). And we?re strangely obsessed with the wooden puzzle robot ($25) we?re adding to our home tablescapes.

But most of all we love the home entertaining collection, including melamine plate sets ($40 for four) with deco designs or birds (so Portlandia!), mason jar tumblers ($4) and a rainbow bunting cake topper ($15).

Poketo is the best sort of shop: lovely gifts for everyone, especially ourselves.
