Bed clothes with healing sewn in
We’re intrigued by alternative therapies, and our bedside table often holds something by Deepak Chopra or the like. Now we’ve discovered a new text of soothing words designed to help us heal spiritual and physical maladies, and it’s printed on our bed linens.
Intentions Linens is the brainchild of longtime luxury hotelier Armella Stepan, the former GM of Shutters on the Beach whose high-powered career was sidetracked when a life-threatening series of setbacks necessitated a long-term hospital stay. Stepan was surprised by the power of biofeedback and breath work in healing and at the same time shocked by the poor quality of hospital linens. After researching Western and alternative medical practices, she came up with a simple conclusion: The calming, soothing words we hear while awake can help us achieve deeper, more healing sleep.
To that end, she’s designed silky linens with something extra. These 300-thread-count Egyptian-cotton sheets (from $135 for two standard pillowcases) have white-on-white printed words that are as subtle as they are soothing: Warm. Sleep. Quiet. We think these are thoughtful gifts for an ill friend, as well as being a great reminder that our own bed signals time to power down the electronics and drift off to a healing night’s sleep.
