The Italian Jog
High-style home-workout equipment
The Italians sure know how to live. Luxury leather goods, sexy sports cars--and now sleek home-gym equipment. We're lusting over new offerings from Euro exercise-equipment designers Technogym, now ogle-ready and for order at a showroom in Santa Monica.
Technogym's been outfitting blue-chip international resorts and spas since 1983 (it pioneered Internet-enabled treadmills, for example), but now it's aiming for the home market. Designed by Milanese architect Antonio Citterio, the home collection is made to blend into beautiful interiors, or at least make for a hell of a good-looking private gym. Pieces include a personal cross-trainer and minimalist treadmill, but the real star is the Kinesis Personal, a pulley contraption that enables dozens of exercises--think Lucite handles attached to a wall-mounted panel of leather, hammered gold (Domenico Dolce's choice) or seamless mirror (Carla Bruni-Sarkozy's model).
Prices hover at about $12,000; those wishing to kick the tires before buying can schedule time at the new Wellness Design Center in Santa Monica. There consultants from Fitness Design Group will let you try out machines and discuss design schemes--all while serving you espresso. La dolce vita, indeed.
