An apothecary that inspires us to simplify
Spring-cleaning time is upon us, and we're starting with our bathroom products. Inspired by the sleek new Malin & Goetz apothecary in Larchmont, we're replacing the hodgepodge of old brands with a selection of all-natural formulas.
Malin & Goetz has been a favorite of ours since it opened its first shop eight years ago in New York. Along with the cool and minimalist packaging, we love the pleasantly scented peppermint shampoo ($20), grapefruit face cleanser ($30) and candles ($52)--which are available in scents including dark rum and cannabis (though Los Angeles isn't short on that aroma wafting freely already).
The new Larchmont location is an art gallery-esque space warmed by a central weathered wood table. Here we learned how co-owner Matthew Malin utilizes his luxury care background (Barneys New York cosmetics division, Kiehl's) to make rich-feeling and useful products that won't exacerbate dermatological issues (he personally suffers from rosacea, seborrhea and eczema). Most products--including the silky replenishing face serum ($68) and best-selling detox face mask ($40)--are free of parabens, silicones and traditional oils--basically, anything that clogs the skin.
Shopping at Malin & Goetz is the kick start to a fresh new season.
