It's a predicament that's older than Manolo himself: What to change into when we've got some walking to do, but we've built our outfit around our favorite stilettos? Espadrilles are too casual, and ballet flats are rather blah.
Now a pair of Angeleno stylists have come to the rescue with NewbarK, a line of fashion-forward shoes that are as pretty as they are comfortable. Sisters Maryam and Marjan Malakpour dreamed up their flats (which fold up and slip inside a matching pouch) as a cross between Moroccan babouches and English men's leather slippers.
Some have split rubber soles, while others have all-leather ones. Our favorites remind us of glamorous princess slippers with their metallic or snake-printed leathers--especially the New Jack style with its winsome heart stitched into the vamp.
Stars appreciate NewbarK's comfortable chic: Courteney Cox wears the simple flats, while Heidi Klum rocks black calf boots. Shoes start at $425, and a new line of bags begins at $400; all are made here in Los Angeles and sold at Maxfield, as well as online at Net-a-Porter. The brand has recently started selling internationally at trendy Colette in Paris--but we're proud to have discovered it here first.
