Airstream Life Magazine is organizing tours ($10) of restored vintage Airstream trailers on Saturday and Sunday.
The Saguaro Hotel opened this month with a spa, a heated pool and Palm Springs's must-have amenity, a fire pit.
We love desert getaways, and we love modernist design. So we're filling up the car and heading east for Palm Springs Modernism Week, which begins Thursday.
The event title is misleading (it spans 11 days, not 7), but that just gives us more time to revel in modernity. Hot tickets include tours of iconic architecture, as well as a swimming-pool-as-oasis art museum exhibition. Real estate buffs will want to stop by the prefab-home showcase ($5) and the roundup of updated vintage Airstream trailers ($15).
There's shopping, too: More than 80 international furniture and arts dealers gather at the convention center ($15). And dashes of lovable kitsch include a tribute to mermaid shows at the Ace Hotel ($25), a cocktail soiree at a gull-winged house ($125) and a Motown dance party at the Saguaro Palm Springs ($20).
The rainbow-hued Saguaro is the place to stay: The just-opened 245-room spot has a heated pool, fire pit, spa, daily yoga and rooms starting at $189. At that rate, we'll have a bit left over for a casino visit.
