We like to think we know beauty tricks, from dry shampooing to invisible foundation and even glasses-friendly eye makeup. But after 45 minutes at Brentwood's new Queen Bee Salon & Spa, we were humbled by how a little expert brow maintenance took five years off our face.

First cheery brow technician Tammy Segell sat us in a faux-rabbit-fur-slung chair and swabbed a bit of dye on our barely there eyebrows ($25). In less than 10 minutes, our brows emerged well-defined yet not too dark. Then charismatic, British salon owner Jodi Shays took us into a treatment room and, after gently chiding us about overzealous home tweezing, artfully plucked, then dabbed a bit of fill-in powder ($30). Voilà! We looked super-rested. "The brows are lifting to the face, aren't they?" Shays said with a smile.

Meanwhile, we admired the salon's fashionable look (brilliant Nina Campbell wallpaper and Chris Levine photography) and its products, including Sanítas skin care, Simpatico bubble bath and even quirky bathroom scent-eliminator Poo-Pourri.

We'll be back for other services, too: facials (from $95), spray tanning (from $15) and waxing (from $8)--that last earned Shays Allure's "Best of Beauty" award three years running. New tricks, indeed.
