We love Venice for its bipolar charm--kooky street performers on the boardwalk and Maybachs parked in front of pricey shops. But now there’s a new spot that blends the best of its high and low: The Rose Hotel.
Opened earlier this year by fashion photographer Glen Luchford, the Rose is as cool as it is affordable. Rates for the 15 rooms start at $155, and everything is decorated in cool blues and grays with sleek modern furniture. The turn-of-the-century building (rumored to have once been a private brothel) has charming bones, including stone fireplaces, claw-foot tubs and second-floor terraces with great sunset beach views.
For now, there’s no restaurant, but the upstairs suites feature kitchenettes, and Blue Bottle Coffee and pastries from Superba Food + Bread are served downstairs in the lobby.
We’re recommending the Rose to our out-of-town guests, as well as eyeing an upstairs suite for our “Hotel California”-themed cocktail party.
