Book clubs have evolved from modest living room gatherings to shindigs with pricey professional moderators and author appearances.
Now Angelenos have a new free way to spice up their book club: by taking a field trip together to Read @ Sunset Marquis, an event series where you discover new books and hobnob with authors.
The first Sunday of every month, you?ll sit poolside at the West Hollywood hotel and hear provocative writers talk about their latest work. On September 7, author Matthew Specktor discusses his novel American Dream Machine, a coming-of-age story about the son of a Hollywood bigwig, all set against the backdrop of the movie industry?s sham glamour.
Future events are an eclectic mix: On October 5, chat about the funny, insightful memoir by prep school kid turned adult film star Asa Akira called Insatiable: Porn--A Love Story. Then, on November 2, UCLA Egyptologist and Discovery Channel host Dr. Kara Cooney reveals a little-known female pharaoh in The Woman Who Would Be King.
Even if you?re not in a book club, the Sunset Marquis?s literary confab is the smartest night out this fall. RSVP here.
