You’re always playing travel agent for family, friends and everyone you know. (Who can blame them for tapping your L.A. expertise? You do have impeccable taste.) But what’s been missing from your insider’s arsenal is a good budget-conscious spot for out-of-towners or skinflint staycationers.
Enter the newly updated San Vicente Bungalows.
With his latest project, hotelier Jeff Klein has transformed the formerly seedy, clothing optional inn into an Instagram-worthy oasis. (He also turned an old art deco hotel on the Sunset Strip into one of the chicest spots in town.) Bathrooms have been renovated, public spaces are awash in preppy green and white stripes, and courtyard rooms open onto a sweet pool. (Prices start at $99 a night.)
On a recent visit, we were charmed by the dappled light, friendly staff and lush gardens. We also loved that you can rent bikes to cruise a couple blocks over to a busy retail stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard.
Even though more major overhauls are in the works (plans include a restaurant and bar), book sooner rather than later. It’s a safe bet this quiet spot will turn into a global beacon of cheap-chic. But for now, it’s our little secret.
