Each winter, you can find Tyler Davis whipping up acai bowls (a.k.a surfer fuel) in the kitchen of his parents’ bakery in Rincón, Puerto Rico. So it made sense for the Montauk native, and son of surfers, to set up shop where he caught his first wave.
Happy Bowls opened this summer at the end of Main Street and--whether or not you’re a ripper yourself--you’ll want to inhale his antioxidant-rich concoction of pureed acai mixed with freshly squeezed juice, locally made granola and whatever organic toppings float your boat, from berries to walnuts to coconut. We caught up with Davis, who dished up his fave bowl recipe:
Happy Summer Bowl
Mix the following ingredients together in a blender:
7 ounces frozen acai or pitaya (dragon fruit)
½ cup pineapple (juice can be substituted)
Top the pureed mixture with the following healthy treats:
½ cup light crisp vanilla granola
½ banana, sliced
5 chocolate-covered almonds
⅓ cup unsweetened coconut shavings
¼ cup bee pollen sprinkle
Drizzle with agave nectar and dig in.
