Raising the Bar
A high-end spa brings Hamptons pampering to a new level
East Hampton may be the summer home to Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker and Paul McCartney, but most of its beauty emporiums have been low on luxury--until now.
The Salon Bar, which recently opened just above popular Babette?s restaurant, looks as if it were plucked out of Beverly Hills or Palm Beach. An oversize crystal chandelier hangs from the waiting area?s triple-height ceiling, and each interior room has its own smaller version. Upholstered thrones serve as manicure chairs, while pedicure stations feature elegant ceramic bowls.
The offerings at Salon Bar run the gamut from a simple softening paraffin foot treatment ($22) to an anti-aging 24-karat-gold collagen facial ($205). Body wraps include one with wine ($175), which hydrates and fades dark spots, and another with chocolate ($175) for simple (and tasty-smelling) smoothing.
To further deliver the message of glamour, gold-framed photos of Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly line the walls.
So sip your cappuccino, stare out over the late-summer foliage and feel the luxury.
