Christopher Fischer grows beyond cashmere
The East End Christopher Fischer shops are best known for cashmere creations: From versatile gossamer scarves that double as sarongs to supersoft crewnecks in a range of shades, the pieces are ideal for Hamptons life.
Their inventory has continued to expand, and this summer the stores are carrying a wide range of fashions. The bags alone are worth a visit: British Meli Melo crushable leather purses with gold hardware ($790) are elegant and big enough to hold a pair of flats and a wrap; tie-dyed leather Sammy bags ($165 to $200), handmade in Ethiopia, serve as makeup kits or clutches; and the white Italian Orciani leather cutout tote ($610) easily goes from a fitness class to an elegant dinner.
As for the summer clothing, whether you choose bright blue silk embellished with gold and glitter ($260) or subtler textured white with pale pink sequins ($225), Juliet Dunn tunics from London are head turners at the beach and stylish enough to wear to lunch.
Alternately, now that the heat wave has broken, you may be ready to check out new fall arrivals. The cashmere is as lush as ever, but this season some items are mixed with silk and fur. Yum.
