Sure, we can head to the Galleria for all of our shopping needs. But where?s the fun in that?
Some of the best finds come from local boutiques (we?re still getting compliments on this throw we scored at Maven), and lately, we?ve had our eye on a few newcomers. So, in the name of research, we hit the streets... and went shopping.
We started the afternoon at Abi Ferrin, our hometown girl?s new flagship location that just opened in West Village. We tried on one of Ferrin?s flattering dresses ($270) and browsed her do-good Freedom Project line. Plus, we got to admire some art: Sculptures by Ro Diaz are on display through June. 3699 McKinney Ave.; Suite 103; 214-565-0055 or abiferrin.com
Next up: the Design District?s most recent addition, Shastra. This sustainably minded shop only stocks only fair-trade and eco-friendly goods from India--from furniture and housewares to clothing and jewelry. We fell in love with this distressed wooden chest ($173), which had us dreaming of open-air markets in New Delhi. 130 Oak Lawn Ave.; 214-748-8922
Our last stop was The Wild Detectives, a new bookstore in Oak Cliff that carries a carefully curated selection of titles--and eats. We went with the intention of picking up a copy of You Should Have Known but ended up taking a seat at the bar and ordering a cheese plate from their Spanish-inspired menu. Caña de Cabra and light reading? The perfect end to the perfect day. 314 W. 8th St.; 214-942-0108 or thewilddetectives.com
