The Texas Book Festival turns a new page
If going ghost-hunting with writer R.L. Stine (Goosebumps) doesn’t get your literary heart beating, how about a game of Sexist Bingo with author Elissa Schappell (Use Me) or a round of Taboo with the editor of The Rumpus?
Yes, bibliophiles, gather ye round: The Texas Book Festival in Austin is just days away, and the organizers of the free event have, well, thrown the book at more traditional programming. Instead, they’re promising a spirited Saturday night of events in and around the city (à la San Francisco’s popular Litquake), full of unexpected interactions with books and authors. Think rousing rounds of Nerd Jeopardy with fellow competitor Reza Aslan (Zealot) and Drunk (Literary) History with the creator of the Comedy Central show, Derek Waters.
There will be conventional seminars and meet-and-greets during the two-day festival (we’re especially looking forward to the Meg Wolitzer/Lynda Obst session). But we’re most excited about the kookier affairs, say a game of Literary Mafia with the author of Motherless Brooklyn.
Game on, Lethem.
