If you?ve never seen a Bruce Wood contemporary dance program, cancel whatever plans you have this weekend.
The three-work show has a timely pre-Fourth of July theme (red, white and blue are part of the title of each work), and the individual pieces capture different elements of the American spirit. The first dance, RED, was staged in the aftermath of 9/11 and is a kinetic show that features Philip Glass?s Violin Concerto as its musical backdrop. (Think frenetic, staccato dance moves.)
Meanwhile, Rhapsody in Blue is set to George Gershwin?s iconic music, with dancers mingling in the spirit of romance. And White Rabbit introduces the evening?s fireworks, as the company twists and shouts to ?60s rock (watch for a surprise twist near the end).
RED + 2 will be shown this Friday and Saturday night at Dallas City Performance Hall, 2520 Flora St. Tickets are $10 to $100.
