Libby Lane's H Clutch ($276) is simple and elegant, with a brass-stud adjustable flap.
The small P Latigo Strap bag in Whiskey ($250) is versatile: It can hold items inside another bag, but it's pretty enough to carry on its own.
The F Tote in Pitch Black ($610) just might hold everything. Lane's signature adjustable flap gives way to a leather-sided pocket inside. The bag comes with a leather and brass keychain.
How luscious is this H Clutch in Cream ($268)?
Double-stud closure gives the Whiskey D Clutch ($276) extra structure and clean lines.
Would it be a stretch to say this season?s haute handbags are made on a ranch outside of Amarillo?
While the Texas Panhandle is not exactly known for its fashion-forwardness, one designer is surging to the forefront of the purse pack, thanks to her inventive use of locally sourced leather.
At 25, Libby Lane is one part fashion phenom--solidified after an October 2012 Vogue feature--and the rest leather pioneer, forging custom-made waterproof totes, clutches and envelope-shaped bags stitched from the same type of heavyweight leather used to make chaps and saddlebags.
Lane?s bags are simple in design, hand-cut and constructed to highlight the leather?s imperfections. And clearly, the designer has a reverence for her medium; everything from her daringly minimal H and D clutches ($276) to the larger F and V totes ($560 to $610) are proof of that.
And there?s just something so alluring about a versatile bag, like the P Latigo Strap ($250), which can be used as a small bag-within-a-bag or carried on its own.
This is one young designer who?s ready to roam.
