At First Blush
Highbrow beauty with down-low prices
Applying makeup can be a repetitive routine or an enjoyable experience. Sometimes it can be a little of both.
But thankfully, a company that?s new to our scene is ready to settle the score: Makeup is fun at Blushington.
From the blush-colored palette to the shiny accent walls and shabby-chic vanities, the atmosphere at this new beauty lounge in Highland Park is decidedly feminine and an ideal foundation, if you will, for the bevy of affordably priced services available here.
Makeup applications start at $30 (Eyes Only) and go up to $50 (Camera Ready). We recently stopped in to give the Full Face ($40) a whirl.
Our makeup artist was equal parts accessible and knowledgeable, and after we decided on a simple, subdued daytime look, the session began. The salon uses four brands--Stila, Kevyn Aucoin, Julie Hewett and Becca--which our stylist mixed and matched to his (and resulting in our) liking.
And even though it was just a Monday morning, we went for the faux lash application ($15), resulting in a glam look that was totally tempered by our neutral makeup.
Next time, we?re coming before a big event--all the better to take advantage of the complimentary mimosas.
