Yip Yip Hooray!
Three cheers for these cards that care
To say Janet Healey and Joe Grisham are dog lovers would be an understatement.
The photography team has such esteem for the canines among us that they were motivated to start their offshoot business, Hooray for the Underdog!, in 2006.
Their subjects are often rambunctious and sometimes timid, but by photographing animal-shelter dogs, the duo brings to light the plight of rescue animals through their greeting cards and other stationery staples.
From their downtown Dallas studio--and no doubt with special help from assistants Bibi, a Jack Russell terrier, and Murphy, a terrier mix--Healey and Grisham churn out endearing portraits like this one of Daisy, a.k.a. the pug with pearls, and Maggie, a puppy who happens to be wearing a sombrero.
As we awww-ed our way through the site (the cards, $3.50 and up, are also available at Barnes & Noble), we couldn?t help falling in love with the adoptable dogs and their stories, which are printed on the back of each card.
And while Oprah named Hooray for the Underdog! in her top ?Gifts That Give Back? two years in a row (10 percent of the proceeds go to animal-welfare groups and shelters), it?s still easy to see that we should all cheer for these pups.
