Fashion designer Nicole Kwon comes off as low-key and modest, but her new store is already making quite a splash, adding to our area a much-needed destination for comely yet high-concept clothing.

After working in avant-garde houses like Hussein Chalayan and Vivienne Westwood, Kwon launched her own line, NKWON New York. She recently moved to Dallas, she says, for the warmer weather.

However, we happen to think there might be nothing hotter than her high-low boutique (items range from $15 to $2,000), located amid the more conventional merchandise on offer in the West Village.

The Nicole Kwon Concept Store features women?s wear, shoes and her own designs. From patent-leather Dieppa Restrepo shoes from Colombia (a Dallas exclusive) to Alice Yim?s flowing tops (perfect for layering during our fickle late-fall weather), the items here are scrupulously curated in an edgy yet sophisticated way.

A day before we visited, one lucky woman had bought an entire rack of Kwon?s clothing, but plenty of remarkable styles were still on view, most skewing minimalistic with a predominantly black-and-white palette.

And color us gaga, but like Lady Gaga we are big fans of Maria Francesca Pepe?s conversation-starting jewelry.

It?s all part of a collection that could make any of us (fashion) rock stars.
